Emperor Montoku ( Japanese 文 徳 天皇 , Montoku-tennō ; * 827 ; † August 27, 858 ) was the 55th Tennō of Japan . He ruled from 850 to 858. He was the first son of Emperor Nimmyo and a daughter of Fujiwara no Fuyutsugu. His personal name was Michiyasu.

In 848 he became crown prince. Fujiwara no Yoshifusa strengthened his power in his government. Yoshifusa married his daughter to Montoku, and Prince Korehito was born to her. It was the early days when the Fujiwara clan came to power.
