The Shubunkin ( Japanese 朱 文 金 "scarlet patterned goldfish ", also spelled 朱 文錦 "scarlet patterned brocade") is an ornamental pond fish from Japan. The shubunkin is a mix of goldfish, veiltail, and koi. The fish is two-colored (typically red and bluish-mother-of-pearl), and black spots are irregularly distributed over this basic color. Its imposing caudal fin can be up to half the total length, but unlike the veil tail, it is not doubled. There are several breeding standards in different colors: London, Bristol, Japanese and American Shubunkin.

The Shubunkin does not require as much space as the Koi , so it is suitable for somewhat smaller ponds (less than 6000 liters).
