A sighting competition is a competition in various sports in which athletes can qualify for a team or a squad, for example for world championships or the Olympic Games , with their performance . As a rule, pure sighting competitions do not have an official competitive character, unless championships or other official competitions are also used as sighting competitions.

Viewing competitions are of particular importance for young athletes, as their performance can be recommended for further training measures as well as for inclusion in a state or federal team with the state or national coaches present. The criteria that are used in sighting competitions differ from sport to sport and from the objectives of the sighting.
