Siderophyr
The Siderophyre are a subgroup of the stone-iron meteorites . Its main representative is the Steinbach meteorite , which consists of a unique mixture of red-brown pyroxenes in an IVA nickel iron matrix. The meteorite is possibly a counterpart to the pallasites , which originate from the zone between the metallic core and the silicate mantle of differentiated asteroids .
Meteorite Steinbach (IVA-an), in incident light the silicates ( pyroxene ) appear reddish brown (left), in transmitted light they appear amber (right), the etched cut surface shows iron containing nickel ( kamacite , taenite ) with Widmanstätten structures , darker Troilit and granular, greenish enstatite (bottom left).
