Seven roof house
The so-called Siebendächerhaus is a former tanner's house in Memmingen . It is one of the so-called seven Memmingen landmarks .
history
After the tanning trade had flourished in the 16th century, the seven-roof house was commissioned by the then city magistrate in 1601. The house was built on the foundations of a 13th century building that had previously been demolished. The location was ideal for the purpose of the house as the city stream that carried water into the city was not far away. Towards the end of the Second World War, the building was badly damaged in an air raid on April 20, 1945. The interlocking frameworkit is thanks to it that it still stands today. When the bomb detonated on Gerberplatz, the entire filling material of the framework was blown out. Only the framework remained inclined. Committed Memmingen citizens supported the house immediately after the bombing, erected it with an extremely complicated cable device and painstakingly reconstructed it with the original parts.

The house was built by the tanners' guild as a community house for drying the skins. In the Middle Ages , where there are windows today, there were only bars for hanging the skins. After the decline of the tanning trade, the house was used as an inn. Since it was rebuilt after the war, the house has served as a pharmacy and headquarters of Siebendächer Wohnungsbau e. G.
