Siegfried Echterhoff (* 1960 in Neuenkirchen ) is a German mathematician. He has been a professor at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster since 1999 .

Life

After graduating from high school in 1979, he first completed an apprenticeship as a car mechanic before beginning his studies in mathematics and mechanical engineering at the University of Paderborn in 1981 . Here he received his doctorate in 1990 in the field of representation theory of locally compact groups under Eberhard Kaniuth ( on topology on dual spaces covariant systems ). Echterhoff then spent a year researching at the University of Maryland in College Park, USA. In 1994 he completed his habilitation in mathematics at the University of Paderborn and since October 1999 he has been professor for non-commutative geometry at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster.

Echterhoff's work deals, among other things, with the representation theory of groups and C * -dynamic systems , with the non-commutative duality theory of entangled products and, above all more recently, with the Baum-Connes conjecture on the K-theory of group C * - Algebras .
