Siegmar Lathan (born April 10, 1955 in Aschersleben ) is a former German sprinter in athletics from SC Dynamo Berlin .

Life

He started training in 1966 at SG Dynamo Aschersleben. It was Werner Tessmann who taught him the basics of hurdling technique and his further athletic development. In September 1969 he was delegated to SC Dynamo Berlin . He became a member of the People's Police , studied externally from 1976 to 1981 at the officers' school in Aschersleben and graduated as a "political scientist". After the end of his competitive sports career, he worked from 1980 to 1984 in the Presidium of the German People's Police as a sports officer. From May 1984 Lathan worked at the TZ Dynamo Brandenburger Tor as a swimming coach and from 1987 to 1989 studied external sports science at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

From 1979 to 1982 S. Lathan was married to the 400-meter runner (Olympic champion and world record holder) Christina Lathan (née Brehmer). During their marriage, their son Maik was born in 1981.

Athletic career

In 1969, Lathan began with the sprint chief trainer Gerhardt Schmolinsky with the 110-meter hurdles training. From 1971 he was taken over by Klaus-Peter Mikolajczyk and finally in 1974 he started training for the 400-meter run.

Siegmar Lathan was a noticeable figure during competition times. His coordination skills were particularly noticeable with a height of 1.98 m and 92 kg.
