Sigma Island is an island in the South Georgia archipelago in the South Atlantic . It is the northernmost of the three large Welcome Islands and is one of the breeding areas of the black-browed albatross .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it 2009. It is named after the Sigma , a 2002 to 2005 in the service of the Government of the British Overseas Territories South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands and the Falkland Islands stationary vessel for fisheries inspection .
