Sigurjón Þórðarson (2007)

Sigurjón Þórðarson (born June 29, 1964 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic politician. He is a member of the Dögun party , which emerged from the Liberal Party of Iceland in 2012 . Sigurjón had been the leader of the Liberal Party since 2010.

Life

Sigurjón Þórðarson graduated from high school in 1985. Until 1990 he studied biology at the University of Iceland and graduated with a Bachelor of Science . He then studied Water Pollution Control Technology at Cranfield University . After completing his studies, he was a lecturer at the University of Iceland and a teacher at a school.

He belongs to the neo-pagan religious community Ásatrúarfélagið and is (as of 2005) as a priest (so-called goði ) responsible for Hegranes in North Iceland. Sigurjón Þórðarson has three children.

Political career

From 2003 to 2007 Sigurjón Þórðarson was a member of the Icelandic parliament Althing for the north-western constituency and as such was a member of the Icelandic delegation to the West Nordic Council from 2005 onwards.

Since 2010 he has been chairman of the Liberal Party of Iceland .

From 2010 to 2014 Sigurjón was a member of the Skagafjörður municipality . As of 2016, he is one of the municipal council representatives of Skagafjörður.
