Siko Naqo

Siko Naqo (born November 16, 1884 in Selcka , Lunxhëri ; † January 1945 in Mauthausen concentration camp ) was an Albanian partisan in the Albanian resistance during World War II.

Life

Siko Naqo grew up in the village of Selcka in the Lunxhëri Mountains east of Gjirokastra in southern Albania . As an adult, he moved to Vlora , where he ran a small business. During the Italian occupation of Albania in World War II , his shop and house became a meeting place for resistance fighters. Both served the partisans as a transshipment point and warehouse for weapons, clothing and food. Among other things, he also stored the printing presses for the anti-fascist youth of Gjirokastra. In August 1944 he was arrested and taken to Mauthausen concentration camp and then to Gusen concentration camp . He died in January 1944.

Posthumous honor

On December 27, 2002, Siko Naqo was awarded the title "Märytrer des Landes". A street in Vlora was named after him.
