Silver textile

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Silver textiles are made from fabrics in which silver is interwoven with silk or cotton . They can be helpful with atopic eczema . The main reason is that this clinical picture worsens when it is heavily colonized with the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus and silver has an antimicrobial effect.

Basics

In atopic skin there is often a disruption of its barrier function ; irritation of the skin by external factors occurs more easily than in healthy people. In addition to allergic or mechanical influences, colonization with Staphylococcus aureus , but also Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans is a major reason for the development of symptomatic eczema.

Clothing with a low irritant potential, especially in combination with a reduction in bacterial colonization, is a promising therapeutic approach. Textiles coated with silver have an antimicrobial effect and can thus reduce this colonization. In studies, they were able to alleviate the subjective symptoms of atopic eczema, such as itching and reddening of the skin. They are very comfortable to wear without any demonstrable side effects.
