Silent Circle Instant Messaging Protocol

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Silent Circle Instant Message Protocol (SCIMP) is an encryption protocol that is no longer used , developed by Vincent Moscaritolo of the Swiss software company Silent Circle . The use of SCIMP enabled private conversations via instant messaging (IM) technologies such as XMPP (Jabber).

SCIMP offered encryption, perfect forward secrecy and authentication of the messages, as well as the secure exchange of shared secret keys .

history

Silent Circle developed SCIMP for their encrypting IM application called Silent Text . Silent Text was discontinued on September 28, 2015 and its functionality was transferred to a successor product called Silent Phone , an application for encrypted voice telephony . At the same time, Silent Circle switched to a new communication protocol that used the Double Ratchet method instead of SCIMP.
