Siletz Bay

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Siletz Bay is a bay on the Pacific coast of Oregon , where the place of the same name is located. The Siletz River flows into the bay .

In 1991 the Siletz Bay National Wildlife Refuge was established here , which primarily served to protect or restore the local salt marshes. It forms part of the much larger Oregon Coast National Wildlife Refuge Complex , which is largely closed to public access.

The name goes back to the Siletz , an Indian tribe that belonged to the coastal Salish group , and of which he was the southernmost representative.
