WMF-Silit company history

SicoMatic short-term alarm clock 1970s

In order to produce a marketable product after the end of the First World War despite a lack of raw materials, WMF began manufacturing aluminum and steel roasters. This first pot production was the beginning for the Silit steel pot developed in 1920. Own product-oriented representatives were used for this independent product group and no longer the "travelers for everything" that had been common up until then. During the Second World War, by 1942 at the latest, all non-armament production was stopped; only the silit production continued. In 1956 the entire Silit production was relocated to a newly built branch in Riedlingen. In 1960 the enamel melting plant was brought up to date, and WMF decided to convert the plant into an independent company. As it was believed that Silit could compete better on the market for enamelled pots as an independent company , the company was sold in 1964. In 1966 the company was renamed Oberschwäbische Metallwarenfabrik (OMF) , which was reversed after ten years. After economic difficulties, the company was taken over by WMF again in 1998.
