Silvestro Durante

Silvestro Durante (* in the 17th century ; † 1672) was an Italian church musician and composer of the 17th century.

Durante, who is considered a pupil of the composer Giacomo Carissimi , was Kapellmeister of the Basilica Santa Maria in Trastevere in Rome from 1645 to 1662 , but was named as "Maestro" of the church music of the basilica as early as December 1637. In 1664 he is still called maestro di cappella .

Works by Durante have survived in the Düben collection of the Uppsala University Library .
