Simeulue or Mae o is a language spoken on the island of Simeulue off Sumatra . It belongs to the northwest Sumatra branch of the Malayo-Polynesian languages within the Austronesian languages .

There are the following dialects:

  • Defayan: (in Teupah Selatan, Simeulue Timur, Teupah Barat and Teluk Dalam districts)
  • Simolol (prestige dialect): around Kampung Aie and Simeulue Tengah
