Full Members Cup
The Full Members Cup was an English football - cup competition , which was played out between 1985 and 1992. It was held between 1987 and 1989 under the name of the official sponsor Simod Cup . In the last few years between 1989 and 1992 the name changed to ZDS Cup (ZDS means Zenith Data Systems ).
The competition was launched as a direct consequence of the disaster at Heysel Stadium on May 29, 1985, when English clubs were banned from all European club competitions for 5 years ( Liverpool FC even for 7 years). This competition was played in the knockout system for the clubs of the two highest English leagues. The Full Members Cup was not particularly valued by the clubs or the players and suffered from low status. He was then discontinued after 7 seasons. A similar competition for teams that would have qualified nationally for a European competition at the time of the suspension was the English Super Cup. It was introduced in parallel to the Full Members Cup, but was abolished after just one season.
