Simon Haskel, Baron Haskel

Simon Haskel, Baron Haskel (born October 9, 1934 ) is a British peer and Labor Party politician .

Life

He was born in Lithuania as the only children to his parents Isaac and Julia Haskel. He attended Sedbergh School and later graduated as a Bachelor of Science from Salford College of Advanced Technology . In 1961 he began his professional career as an engineer at Perrots Ltd , where he was CEO from 1970 to 1989. In 1972 he was one of the founding members of the Labor Finance & Industry Group , which advises the Labor Party on financial and economic issues, and was its chairman from 1975 to 1995.

On October 4, 1993, he was raised to Life Peer with the title Baron Haskel , of Higher Broughton in the County of Greater Manchester . The title is associated with a seat in the House of Lords , where he belongs to the Labor Party group. There he worked on a number of committees, primarily on industrial and scientific issues.

Simon Haskel married Carole Lewis, daughter of Wilbur Lewis, in 1962. They have two children together, their son Jonathan Edward Haskel, born in 1963, and their daughter, Lisa Frances Haskel, born in 1965.
