action

Seven or eight-year-old Simon has a problem: the other children whisper about him because he has no father. Once after school they tease him about it and eventually they even beat him. Simon is running away from home. He meets the blacksmith Philippe, who wants to know why the boy is crying. The boy wants Philippe to be his father. Philippe often passes the house where Simon lives with his mother Blanchette. Philippe is sympathetic to the woman. When the other children annoy Simon again about his father, Philippe Blanchette proposes marriage. Now Simon has a father who he can show the other children and who protects him.
