The Sinagoga Kadoorie (also: Sinagoga Kadoorie Mekor Haim ) is the seat of the Israelite community in the Portuguese city of Porto . It was built in the 1930s and is the largest synagogue on the Iberian Peninsula .

history

The planning of a synagogue for the Jewish community in Porto began as early as 1923. However, it was not until 1929 that the Jewish community around Artur Carlos de Barros Basto was able to acquire the necessary building land. Construction began at the end of the year and continued until 1937. With financial support from the Kadoorie family and other donors from abroad, the synagogue was completed in 1937 and inaugurated in 1938.

The synagogue has been open to the public since 2012. Since 2015 it has also housed a Jewish museum.
