The Singapore Badminton Hall was a multi-purpose hall in Singapore . It was used for both cultural and sporting events.

Data

The hall is located on the Guillemard Road in the district of Geylang in Singapore . The arena opened in May 1952. The construction cost was 800,000 Singapore dollars. The main reason for building the hall was the lack of an arena for hosting the Thomas Cup in 1952 , the world championship for men's badminton teams , which Malaya was allowed to organize as defending champion in his home country. However, the hall could not yet be used to host the tournament at the end of May 1952. Only the Thomas Cup 1955 and the Thomas Cup 1958 were held in the Singapore Badminton Hall. In January 2008 the lease for the property expired and it reverted to state ownership. In 2009 the site was reopened as Guillemard Village .
