Single copy gene
A single-copy gene is a gene that only occurs in a single copy in the entire genome .
Examples of single-copy genes:
- The gene coding for PrP protein called PRNP , which is located on the short arm of the 20th chromosome in humans and comprises around 750 base pairs .
- The b-actin sequence, which is highly conserved in many organisms and can thus be used to differentiate the genomes of different organisms.
