Sinuosity
The sinuosity (from Latin sinus , bay ',' bay ') is a simple measure of the intensity of the meandering of a river or running water . In addition to geomorphology , the term is also used in route planning for the curves and distance relationships of roads .
It is calculated as the quotient of the length of a river or other stretch of road and the straight-line distance between the start and end point.
- With
- P : sinuosity
- L : length of the river section (SI unit: m)
- D : straight line distance between start and end point of L (SI unit: m)
