The Sipar (Indian: Dhal ) is an Asian medieval and early modern shield .

description

The Sipar is one of the round shields . It was used in India and Persia . The diameter is relatively small and is between 20 and 61 cm. Some of these shields are very flat, others are strongly curved (convex). The shields are made of leather or metal . The outside was adapted to the existing cultural characteristics. The special feature is the handle arrangement of the shield. On the inside of the shield, the handles are arranged so that they can be held in the hand or carried on the arm.

The Sipar remained in use until the early 19th century. With the spread of firearms it lost its importance.
