Sirius SportMedia

The Sirius Sport Media GmbH (short: Sirius GmbH ) is owned by Leo Kirch .

In October 2007 the company was commissioned by the German Football League to market the Bundesliga from the 2009/10 season.

The new concept consists of three core areas. The tender for media rights in German-speaking countries is expected to increase sales to 3.45 billion euros in 6 years. Accordingly, 500 million euros per season would be guaranteed. For the production of the live images, Sirius and DFL want to set up a joint venture that will be 51 percent owned by Sirius GmbH and 49 percent by DFL. Finally, the establishment of a separate DFL company for marketing the foreign rights is planned, which should generate another 460 million euros in sales in six years from foreign marketing.

On September 16, 2008, the Handelsblatt reported that the DFL would terminate the contract under pressure from the Federal Cartel Office on September 30, 2008 and thus before the start of the contract, and that the award procedure would have to be put out to tender at the beginning of 2009. On September 25, 2008, the contract was officially terminated by the DFL.
