Site sharing

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term site sharing refers to the joint use of a cellular radio transmission tower by two or more operators of cellular networks . Each mobile network operator involved uses its own antennas, including its own system technology. The structural facilities such. B. the actual mast or the room in which the system technology is housed are used together.

Site sharing is primarily intended to reduce the number of cell phone towers and thus have a positive impact on the landscape. For mobile network operators, however, site sharing is not necessarily positive, because only the respective installer of a transmission system will find the best conditions for his network, while every additional user of the system has to live with compromises (e.g. lower antenna height and thus lower range, Difficult integration of the transmitter into one's own cellular radio network ). However, site sharing also reduces the investments required by mobile network operators, which is why they are willing to share transmission systems with other network operators, even without political guidelines, provided that it is technically possible and appropriate.
