Six Cylinder Smith

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Six Cylinder Smith was an early American blues harmonica player whose life is little known. He was from Texas , Louisiana, or Arkansas .

It is sometimes believed that "Six Cylinder Smith" was a pseudonym of Blind Joe Taggart who recorded different types of music under different names.

Six Cylinder Smith made recordings for Paramount Records in the late 1920s and early 1930s . It is unclear whether Smith did the recordings alone, where he played the harmonica on a neck stand and accompanied himself on the guitar (then it could also have been Taggart), or whether he formed a duo with the guitarist Taggart.

There are also experts who attribute recordings of Blind Percy and his blind band to Six Cylinder Smith, while others believe that Taggart was Blind Percy or at least played in his blind band.
