Skiapods

Skiapods , also Skiapodes , shadow feet or shadow feet ( Greek  Σκιάποδες , from Greek  σκιά (shadow) and πούς (foot)) are mythical creatures of human shape, but with only one leg. With this you should be able to run at lightning speed. When lying down, they hold their huge feet above themselves as sun protection.

Skiapods were mentioned, among others, by Hekataios of Miletus ; therefore they lived in Libya. Also Pliny the Elder ( Naturalis Historia 7, 2) and Ctesias were in their works of the existence of Skiapoden, but they settled in India on. Even Augustine mentioned its existence in De Civitate Dei . They were mentioned repeatedly in literary works up to the 16th century. In recent literature they rarely appear in fantastic novels, such as CS Lewis ' The Journey at Dawn and Umberto Eco's Baudolino .
