DebianEdu (formerly Skolelinux ) is a specialized adaptation of the Linux distribution Debian (a so-called Debian Pure Blend ) for school needs. The now international project was founded in Norway (Skole = school) and provides all the necessary configuration profiles to operate a typical school network on a single installation CD-ROM . Even untrained users can in a few steps both a communications server with LDAP - user database , a terminal server , a workstation or a laptop installed as stand-alone computer. Only free software is used, including a lot of learning software . The CipUX framework with its central user support, server and client administration CAT was ported to Skolelinux in 2005.

history

The project was founded on July 2nd, 2001, around the same time Raphael Herzog started Debian-Edu in France. Since 2003 both projects have been one and the names are synonyms. Some say that Debian-Edu is the name of the project and Skolelinux is the name of the distribution. Today, numerous volunteers are working on the further development of the project: Over 130 programmers support Skolelinux, which includes Debian Edu developers from Norway , France , Spain , Germany , Lithuania , Brazil and the USA . In 2009 Skolelinux will be tested in a pilot phase at eleven schools in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate , after Hamburg had already introduced the system in its schools.

After the project's visibility in Germany had recently decreased significantly, the Teckids eV association has been officially representing the project in Germany since November 2017.
