Skopas (gem cutter)
Skopas ( ancient Greek Σκόπας ) was a Greek gem cutter who worked in the middle of the 1st century BC. Was active.
He is known for his signature on a intaglio of Hyacinth on which the bust is depicted a young man. The stone is in the collection of the Antikenmuseum der Universität Leipzig . A number of other gems with the signature of Skopas are known, but all of them turned out to be modern forgeries.
