Smike is a pop musical adaptation of Charles Dickens ' Nicholas Nickleby that was previously broadcast on BBC television. The star of this BBC production was Beryl Reid as Mrs Squeers. Also played with: Andrew Keir as Mr Squeers, Leonard Whiting as Nicholas, and Ian Sharrock as Smike.

The musical was originally conceived in 1973 at London's Kingston Grammar School by two teachers, Simon May (who later became a successful television program composer) and Clive Barnett. The third employee was Roger Holman. The musical, which is very popular in England, has now been produced several times. In December 2005 the piece was produced again at Kingston Grammar School. A German translation by Roman Hinze has been available since 2007 and has since been played a number of times.
