So.cl was a social network from Microsoft that was publicly presented in December 2012. It was in a test phase until it closed in 2017 and was only available in English . The registration at So.cl required a Microsoft or Facebook account. The network was similar to the Google+ network and took up concepts from Facebook , Twitter and Pinterest .

So.cl was released in December 2011 and was initially available to communities at the University of Washington , Syracuse University, and New York University . It was made available to the public for the experimental phase on May 20, 2012, and has been in beta since December 4, 2012. So.cl last received the last major update in 2014.
On March 7, 2017, Microsoft announced in the Microsoft Research FuseLabs Blog that the So.cl service will be discontinued on March 15, 2017. Since that day, the portal is no longer under the original Internet address www.so.cl reach.
