The Société Nationale Industrielle et Minière ( Arabic الشركة الوطنية للصناعة والمناجم, DMG aš-šarika al-waṭaniyya li-ṣ-ṣināʿa wa-l-manāǧim ) is a Mauritanian mining company . Around 78% of the company is owned by the state, the rest is held by five financial and mining companies from the Arab region. The SNIM generates around 15% of the Mauritanian gross domestic product . The company was founded in 1974 as part of the nationalization of the Mauritanian iron ore - mines founded. SNIM employs around 5,000 people and operates the country's only railway line from Nouadhibou to M'Haoudat .
