Socialist Register

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Socialist Register is a British Marxist magazine published once a year since 1964 .

The magazine was created in response to the 1963 reorganization of the New Left Review and the uncertainty that followed about its future direction.

In a memorandum of April 7, 1963, the British socialist Ralph Miliband proposed that a magazine be published once a year with the other two Marxists, John Saville and Edward P. Thompson . From 1964 to 1983 Miliband and Saville acted as editors, with one exception in 1982. Marcel Liebman was added in 1984, followed by Leo Panitch the following year . While the former died after a short time, Panitch is still one of the magazine's editors today. In 1990 Salville left the Socialist Register.

While essays on a wide variety of topics had previously been printed in each issue, each issue of the magazine from 1984 focused on a specific topic.

The UK edition of the Socialist Register appears in the Merlin Press . The Monthly Review Press is involved in the US publication. VSA-Verlag is responsible for sales in German-speaking countries .
