Leo Panitch

Leo Panitch (born May 3, 1945 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a Marxist-oriented Canadian professor of political science.

Life

Pantich finished his bachelor's degree at the University of Manitoba in 1967. He then moved to the London School of Economics and Political Science , where after completing his master's degree in 1974 he also received his doctorate. He wrote his doctoral thesis under the title UK Labor and Incomes Policy .

From 1972 to 1984 he held various positions at Carleton University . Panitch has been a professor at York University in Toronto since 1984 . Since 1985 he has been one of the editors of the British journal Socialist Register .

Panitch was also politically active. From 1975 to 1984 he was a member of the Ottawa Committee for Labor Action. He is a member of the Canadian Political Science Association.

His academic focus includes state theory and above all theories of imperialism and globalization.

For years he has been collaborating closely with Sam Gindin, who also works at York University . The two have been friends since studying in the 1960s. In 2013, the two of them were awarded the German Memorial Prize for their book The Making of Global Capitalism: The Political Economy of American Empire .

Panitch is married.
