Société des Artistes Français

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Société des artistes français , SAF for short, is a professional association of French visual artists founded in Paris in 1881 . To this day, it presents the works of its members in an annual art exhibition , the Salon des Artistes Français .

When William-Adolphe Bouguereau suggested in 1890 that the salon should be dedicated to young, not yet established artists, established greats such as Ernest Meissonier , Puvis de Chavannes and Auguste Rodin were secessionized . They founded the Société nationale des beaux-arts , which also organized a salon , the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts , or Salon du Champ-de-Mars for short , in contrast to the Salon des Artistes Français , the Salon des Champs- Élysées .

President

The first president of the association was the architect Antoine-Nicolas Louis Bailly (1810-1892). In 2013, the board of directors gave this office to the architect and painter Martine Delaleuf.
