Society of Experimental Test Pilots

The Society of Experimental Test Pilots (SETP) is an international organization based in Lancaster , California ( USA ), which is dedicated to the subject of flight safety and especially flight tests.

history

A first organized meeting was held on September 29, 1955, attended by 17 test pilots from the organization initially known as the "Testy Test Pilots Society". One of the founding members was Scott Crossfield . At the second meeting, on October 13, 1955, the name "Society of Experimental Test Pilots" was used.

Members

Members can only be test pilots who have completed one of the recognized test pilot schools. The association currently has 2,300 members from around 30 countries (as of 2008). The founding idea goes back to an informal meeting of some test pilots on September 14, 1955. Numerous well-known astronauts are members of the SETP.

There are different types of membership: Provisional Associate Member, Associate Member, Member, Associate Fellow, Fellow, Corporate Member. Particularly deserving test pilots receive the title "Honorary Fellow". There is also the "Friends of the Society" award for sponsors.
