SIBA was founded in 1980 with the purpose of combating the brewery ties of British catering establishments; In 1995 the club name was changed. The political campaigns resulted in a large increase in the number of breweries in the UK .

history

The initiator for founding the association was Peter Austin , who was also elected first chairman. Together with the British beer consumer association Campaign for Real Ale , SIBA also advocated the introduction of a progressive beer tax, under which smaller breweries have to pay a lower percentage of taxes than the large industrial breweries. In 2002 this tax system, which corresponds to the beer tax in Germany , was implemented by the government of Gordon Brown .
