The socket NexGen (also "socket 463") was the only socket for NexGen Nx586 processors. The Nx586 was a rival design to Intel's Pentium processor, which had a technically advanced design, but was unable to establish itself on the market due to its proprietary system bus and socket. The Nx586 remained the only processor for the NexGen socket . A follow-up design (NexGen Nx686), compatible with the Intel Pentium Pro , was developed, but never brought to production.
