Sofia (car brand)

Sofia was the name of a Bulgarian sports car that was produced in different versions in the mid-1980s and 1990s. The developer and designer was Welissar Andreev (Velizar Andreev).

In 1985 a first prototype was created and in 1986 work began on other Sofia B sports cars with a body made of fiberglass-reinforced plastic , gull-wing doors and retractable headlights. It was planned to build 200 vehicles. In 1989 the final version of the Sofia B appeared with headlights integrated in the bumper and without hinged doors. The production was supported by the mechanical engineering company Balcancar and the Bulgarian Ministry of Mechanical Engineering.

In 1990 a prototype of the Sofia C with the engine of a Lada was developed and presented at the Sofia Motor Show. In the same year, the start of series production for both the Sofia B and Sofia C was approved, but only 72 vehicles were made in total.
