history

SoftServe was founded in Lviv in 1993 by two former students from the Lviv Polytechnic School. Initially, SoftServe was a software development company headquartered in Lviv, supported from the beginning by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Incubator Center. General Electric (GE) was one of the first known customers. In 1997 the company was almost non-existent, but had the vision for successful expansion into other regions of the world and opened its first office in the United States in 2000. SoftServe was instrumental in developing the Microsoft Bird's Eye service in 2004. The same concept was later used by Google for its representation of the Google Street View. Due to its participation in the project, SoftServe was invited to give a presentation at Microsoft's annual conference. There it was an example of commercial applications that technology companies can create.

In 2006 SoftServe established the "SoftServe University". This has become the company's training program to promote developers and retrain specialists. Based in Lviv, Ukraine, SoftServe University also offers international IT professional certificates for all employees who complete the program. With the establishment of SoftServe University, SoftServe has become the first company to establish a corporate university in Ukraine. In 2008 SoftServe also founded the Lviv Business School at the Ukrainian Catholic University.

SoftServe opened its US headquarters in Fort Myers, Florida in 2008 and started holding an annual conference there. SoftServe was already one of the largest IT outsourcing companies in Ukraine in 2012 with 2189 employees, third after EPAM Systems and Luxoft. By 2014 the number of employees had grown to 3900.

SoftServe moved its US headquarters from Florida to Austin, Texas in 2014. The company had had an office in Austin since 2013, which now officially became its headquarters. The new offices are located at the One Congress Plaza. In the same year SoftServe opened offices or development centers in London, Amsterdam, Sofia, Warsaw and Stockholm. In 2014 SoftServe acquired a technology services company in Amsterdam, Initium Consulting Group BV. The company was founded in 2012 and has specialized mainly in the areas of health care and private equity. Another takeover of SoftServe is the German IT company UGE UkrGermanEnterprise GmbH in Frankfurt am Main. Also in 2014, the new European headquarters opened in a new modern building in Lviv. A meeting was also held in San Francisco, California, with experts from Ukraine and members of the Consulate of Ukraine to discuss concerns about the country's business activities in the light of the geopolitical situation in Ukraine.
