Athenian Papermills Softex , known under the brand name Softex , is a manufacturer of paper and toiletries. The once independent company from Athens is now part of Intertrade Hellas .

history

The company was founded in Athens in 1937 as Athenian Papermills and has long been the market leader in Greece. Nevertheless it was in deficit and was partially nationalized in 1984 together with other loss-making companies. The turnover had fallen to 22 million euros by the end of the 1990s, with 1275 employees. After a successful renovation and the closure of the Drama plant with 200 employees, the company was sold to the Bolton Group . The market share of the brand in Greece had recovered to 19.3% to 27.2% by 2003, 50% of the paper produced is mostly sold abroad for further processing to other companies. In 2016 the company was sold to Intertrade Hellas .
