The Widderstall solar test field near Merklingen in the Swabian Alb is one of the largest photovoltaic test fields in Europe. Research and development in the field of renewable energies are the focus of activity at the Widderstall solar test field , which started operations in 1989.

In the Widderstall solar test field there are numerous different test rigs for photovoltaic modules available, including since July 12, 2009 a new test rig for accelerated aging of modules.

The Widderstall solar test field is operated by the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW).
