The Son Salomó solar power plant is located in the northwest of the Balearic island of Menorca , on the finca of the same name, near the road to the Faro de Punta Nati lighthouse . It was the first open space solar power system of this size to be built on the island.
The facility with 15,000 solar modules, built on a total area of around 10 hectares, produces around 4 megawatts peak (MW p ) and was connected to the grid in 2008. The system generates around 5% of the island's total energy needs. The plant was built by the Menorcan company Ona Energies . To connect the solar power plant, a 15 kV line was built to the Menorca substation. The operator is Ceconat Renovables SL , based in Ciutadella . The building was financed by Deutsche Bank .
