Soldaderas during the Mexican Revolution

As Soldaderas refers to the female soldiers during the Mexican Revolution against the regime of Porfirio Diaz , for more rights and more freedom fighting. The most famous Soldaderas were probably Dolores Jiménez y Muro and Hermila Galindo .

Women joined the revolutionary movement mostly for civil rights and feminist reasons, but after the successful revolution they largely disappeared from military offices.

The legendary Adelita , who appears as a theme in several poems and songs, especially in the corridos , became emblematic of the Soldadera . Today the Adelita in Mexico has a status similar to that of Joan of Arc in France.
