Winterthur summer theater
The Winterthur Summer Theater is an open-air theater in Winterthur . It has existed since 1865, making it the city's oldest theater. Playing time is from June to September.
Since it was founded, the summer theater has played in its current location, even if not in the garden of the Strauss restaurant until 1881, but initially simply in the open park. When it was founded, it was mainly traveling theater groups that played in the summer theater; today the summer theater has a permanent ensemble. Since 1890, after a previous five-year break, the summer theater has been played every year. In 1952 the city granted the theater an annual deficit guarantee of 4,000 francs, and since 1964 it has also been subsidized. The canton of Zurich has supported the theater since 1974.
