Puru is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Jõhvi ( Jõhvi vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

The village has 79 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012). It was first mentioned in 1241 in the Liber Census Daniæ .

Personalities

The best-known son of the place is the Estonian theologian and politician Peeter Põld (1878-1930), who was born in Puru.
