Sompa (German Sompäh ) is a village ( Estonian küla ) in the rural municipality of Jõhvi ( Jõhvi vald ). It is located in Ida-Viru County ( East Wierland ) in northeast Estonia .

Description and history

The village has 83 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2012).

The village of Aue on today's Sompas territory was mentioned in a document as early as the 13th century. The place Sompa is first recorded for the year 1420.

The village was created in its current boundaries in 1977 by amalgamating the small villages Sompa-Aruserva, Sompa-Sininõmme, Sompa-Vanaküla (Aue) and Sompa asundus (Sompa-Jaamaküla).

The railway line that connects Tallinn with the Russian capital Saint Petersburg runs through the town .

Sompa manor

The Sompa manor is listed from 1496. The historic mansion was destroyed in the interwar period .
