Sonatine pour piano (Maurice Ravel)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Sonatine pour piano is a three-movement piano work that Maurice Ravel composed in 1903 (first movement) and 1905 (second and third movement), around the same time as the piano cycle Miroirs .

The form of the work with a largely lyrical sonata movement at the beginning, a minuet in second place and a fast finale corresponds to the model of the classical sonatina ; However, due to its pianistic structure and, above all, its harmony typical of Ravel and so-called musical impressionism , the piece is not a style copy , but fits seamlessly into Ravel's piano work between Jeux d'eau and the Miroirs.

The three movements of the sonatina have the following tempo markings:

  • Modéré (1st movement)
  • Mouv t de Menuet (2nd movement)
  • Animé (3rd movement)
