Wahner Heide special ammunition depot
The special ammunition depot Wahner Heide is a former depot for nuclear weapons in the northwest of the urban area of the city of Troisdorf .
The facility is located in the Wahner Heide , about 2 km south of Cologne / Bonn Airport . The Wahner Heide has a long tradition as a shooting range and military training area . In the years 1953 to 2004 Belgian armed forces were here with their barracks in Spich (Camp Roi Baudouin), Altenrath (Camp Major Legrand), Cologne and other localities.
From 1960 , under the command of NORTHAG , nuclear warheads for the 1st Belgian Corps were stored in the warehouse, including warheads for Honest John , artillery shells and nuclear mines .

The 59th Ordnance Brigade was responsible for the system. The facility was guarded by the 4th US Army Missile Detachment. In 1962 the facility was given up, the corresponding Belgian units were relocated to Werl; they served there until 1993.
